Arthritis Essentials - An Introduction

 

Background

Arthritis Essentials® is a core unit of competency (MSKINF001 Provide information and strategies for musculoskeletal conditions) within the nationally accredited 10168NAT Course in Management of Musculoskeletal Conditions.

First developed in 2007 by Arthritis & Osteoporosis Tasmania, a not for profit association and Registered Training Organisation (RTO), the unit was updated in 2015 to an online learning unit with the support of Arthritis Australia and a funding grant from the Australian Government Department of Health. The development of this online unit has involved extensive consultation with clinical and allied health professional experts, and with key industry stakeholders ensuring evidence-based information and current best practice management strategies are reflected in the unit.

Learning Objectives

Arthritis Essentials® is intended for anyone who has identified a need to gain or further develop their professional skills in arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions. Completion of this unit is an essential requirement for exercise professionals seeking to become licensed providers for The Joint Movement™ - an arthritis focused group exercise program developed by Arthritis Australia. As an exercise professional working in the primary health care sector, Arthritis Essentials® will assist you to become an active and confident member of the arthritis care team, providing you with a basic understanding of arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions and their impact on the individual and the broader community. NB: When working with clients with these conditions, it is important to work within your professional scope of practice and to work collaboratively with the client's treating medical and/or allied health professionals. Consequently, Arthritis Essentials® does not encourage independent exercise prescription for high risk clients, nor diagnosis or treatment of conditions. The content is designed to enhance your knowledge of arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions in order to effectively support clients with stable, managed conditions.

Certification

Arthritis Essentials® (MSKINF001 Provide information and strategies for musculoskeletal conditions) is a core unit of competency within the nationally accredited 10168NAT Course in Management of Musculoskeletal Conditions. A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of the unit.
